Consonni for two in a row in Waregem?
On Wednesday 29 March, the women will ride their 11th edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen. Italy's Consonni sprinted to victory last year and next week takes on the likes of 2022 runner-up De Wilde, Vollering, Brand and Vos.
Following her success on the Verbindingsweg in Waregem last year, the Italian Chiara Consonni (UAE Team ADQ) will be looking for a second consecutive win. She will be joined in support by her compatriot Marta Bastianelli, who was fifth last year and is riding in her final spring.
Once again, we will be looking out for Julie De Wilde. The young rider from Fenix-Deceuninck sprinted to second place after Consonni last year and would like to go one better this year. She will have to get past Marianne Vos, among others, starting for Team Jumbo-Visma. With Brand, Trek-Segafredo also has an experienced leading lady at the start. She is joined by the young Van Anrooij.
Team SD Worx’s joker in the pack is Strade Bianche winner Vollering, with the Swiss Reusser also in the team. For FDJ Suez, look out for Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. She comes to Waregem with Marie Le Net, seventh on the Verbindingsweg last year. Movistar Team Women is counting on the duo Lippert and Mackaij. For quick legs, look out for the likes of Barbieri (Liv Racing Teqfind) and Confalonieri (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team), among others.
AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step relies on local rider Ghekiere and the experience of Moolman-Pasio. For EF Education – Tibco – SVB, we can look forward to the debut of world junior champion and winner of the Ronde van Vlaanderen for juniors Zoe Backstedt.
We will find out who will be celebrating victory on the Verbindingsweg in Waregem one year after Chiara Consonni at about 17:45 on Wednesday 29 March. Discover the provisional start list here.
